February 2026 Road Construction Update!
TXDOT has "closed" Hwy 49 leading to Shady Grove Road from both directions.
Coming from Longview: Most of the construction is happening between our road and Hwy 155. Though we were originally told that the workers would let people pass, there may be heavy trucks and rough unpaved roads coming the usual way from the north. As of 2/19/26, we suggest following the detour from 155 to 729 and then to Joe Davis, which tees into Hwy 49 directly across from Shady Grove Rd. See this route map from the intersection of 155 and 729 to our ranch.
Coming from Jefferson/Marshall: You should be able to tell the worker at the barricade that you are local traffic traveling to a business within the construction zone, and they will let you bypass the detour entirely. As we understand it, the actual road construction is happening farther north past our road, and that section of 49 will remain reasonably clear.
For years, folks have been asking for the option to just "come to the farm and shop." And we've wanted to provide it! But it takes a long time to build things while running a farm--especially when you're milling your own lumber! So we are pleased to announce that it's finally here. Our farm store is up and running for your real-food shopping enjoyment! Be sure to visit the "Inside Outhouse" and check out all the varieties of local wood and repurposed materials we have implemented in the architecture. Farmer Matt (who's an engineer in disguise) designed it himself!
Thursday - 2 pm - 5 pm
Friday - 10 am - 3 pm
Saturday - 10 am - 1 pm
Hours are adjusted the weeks of major holidays, so please check before driving out!
Pet Visiting Policy:
We love our 4-legged friends, too, but please leave yours at home during your trip to the farm. The farm store is a licensed grocery store, and per state regulations, pets are not permitted in the building.
If your pet must tag along for the drive, they should stay in your air-conditioned vehicle for their own safety and the safety of the animal and human residents of Shady Grove Ranch. There are many dangers for visiting dogs at the ranch, including electric fence, cattle (which do NOT tolerate dogs in their pasture, not even ours), and our own livestock guardian dogs. It is our policy to require that all pets remain in the owner's vehicle at all times. Please be sure your pet is getting sufficient air conditioning. If there is a risk they may get too hot in your vehicle, please leave your pet at home when you visit the farm. We do offer online shopping and curbside pickup, but curbside orders MUST be placed 48 hours in advance.
Service animals trained to do specific tasks to aid persons with disabilities are excepted and welcome to assist their owner by doing their important job. However, they must be restrained with a leash. If they cannot perform their service tasks on a leash, they must be trained to be controlled at all times using verbal or signal commands, and are not permitted to enter the farm property other than the parking area and retail store during regular open hours. This is for their safety and the safety of our livestock.
If you would like to attend a farm tour with a service animal alongside, please contact us prior to registering so we can make sure to mitigate any potential conflicts your companion animal may have with our livestock or livestock guardian dogs. Pets are not permitted to attend farm tours.
We add new products weekly, so keep checking back, or if you're looking for something in particular, let us know!
Ever wonder what kinds of things you'll find at the SGR Farm Store? These photos below are of our freezers, refrigerators, and shelves, so you can check it all out!
