You will not believe how easy French Onion Soup is to make from scratch. Only 4 ingredients, and they are all REAL!
- Prep Time:
- Cook Time:
- Servings: 4-8
Ingredients
- (1 Quart) Beef Bone Broth (Quart)
- (About 1.5 cups) 1 Large Onion, halved then sliced
- (to taste (about 1/2-3/4 tsp)) Sea Salt
- (2-3 Tbs) Pork Lard
Directions
In medium saucepan, heat lard (or butter) over medium heat until melted. Add sliced onion and saute, stirring occasionally, until soft and translucent, about 15 minutes. Typically, do not allow onions to caramelize, although this would be tasty also. Pour prepared broth into pot and bring to simmer. Season to taste and serve with mozzarella toast or garlic bread.
Note: You can fancy up the flavors with herbs such as bay leaf and thyme and even sherry or port, but I find the simple, rich flavors of the broth, onion, and salt, are plenty for us!
